Back in the summer of 2016 Kevin Durant made the entirety of the NBA go into a frenzy by leaving OKC to join the Golden State Warriors. Durant is often considered the second best player in the NBA after LeBron James, and for him to join a Warriors team that went 73-9 in the regular season caused everyone who follows the NBA to go crazy. People from teams in the NBA, players, coaches, journalist, writers, and fans went completely berserk when they found out about the news.
But one player that everyone was talking about on that day was not Durant, it was his star teammate on the Thunder Russell Westbrook. Everyone was talking about if Westbrook knew before it was made public that Durant was leaving him and the Thunder to join the Warriors. That question was being asked from the second the news was announced, all the way until Westbrook himself decided to answer the question everyone was asking. When asked about if he knew Durant’s decision before everyone else during a off season workout, Westbrook replied that he found out the same time everyone else did. When Westbrook’s response was made public everyone in the NBA universe went even crazier when they heard that Durant made his decision without telling his teammate and friend first. People started to say that Durant cheating on Westbrook and the Thunder by leaving and joining the Warriors is the biggest news and surprise that ever occurred in the modern NBA. They began to say it was bigger than LeBron’s decision to leave the Cleveland Cavailers and join the Miami Heat back in 2010. After the Thunder had found out about Durant’s decision to join the Warriors, the Thunder began to destroy and tear down anything that had to do with Durant. They tore down his poster on their stadium, sold all his jerseys for 10 cents, and tried to forget everything Durant did with the organization.
